Where we came from and where we are headed.

LSP — Leiber, Son & Partner — was founded in 1998 by Dr Thomas Leiber and his father, Heinz Leiber, as a place where ideas could come to life without the stringent bureaucracies of large corporations.

The founders

Heinz Leiber is widely known as Mr. ABS — one of the engineers whose work on anti-lock braking systems shaped a generation of vehicle safety technology. His career was built on the conviction that braking could always do more than the current generation of vehicles demanded of it.

Dr Thomas Leiber, innovator and entrepreneur, brought that conviction forward into the software and electromechanics era. Together they built LSP into a boutique engineering company with a clear mission: turn Brake-by-Wire technology into something real that could reach the road and make driving safer.

The philosophy that has stayed constant

Real breakthroughs happen when engineers are encouraged to push into new frontiers, without fear of failure and without rigid institutional boundaries standing in the way.

Dr Thomas Leiber, Co-Founder — LSP Innovative Automotive Systems

Over more than two decades, this has been the constant at LSP. It produced the first Innovative Valve Control system, the Double Air Gap motor topology, and eventually the XBC brake-by-wire platform now validated on autonomous vehicles, hypercars, and commercial vehicle programmes worldwide. The approach has never been to adapt what already exists. It has been to go back to what the application actually requires and build from there.

Today and where we are headed

Heinz Leiber is retired. Dr Thomas Leiber has stepped back from daily operations, handing leadership to Roger Perthen, who has served as CEO since 2024.

LSP remains a boutique engineering powerhouse: a multicultural team working on brake-by-wire systems, autonomous driving technologies, and high-performance vehicle platforms, serving OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, hypercar manufacturers, and next-generation mobility players. Manufacturing, testing, and engineering remain in Unterföhring, Munich.

The direction ahead is the same as the direction at founding. The problems are harder. The platform is broader. The conviction is unchanged.

On what comes next

Real-world robustness matters far more than theoretical elegance.
