The culmination of the hydraulic transmission control project
We are delighted to announce the successful completion of our project “Development of a high-precision, highly dynamic volume-based hydraulic transmission control system with a new, energy-efficient hydraulic drive”, which we have been working on with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bo Yuan and his team from the University of Applied Sciences Munich since September 2017.
The aim of the project was to demonstrate on the test bench that conventional transmission actuation can be much more cost-effectively and efficiently achieved by applying technological concepts from brake actuation. The new, patented approach is based on a hydraulic piston actuator combined with low-cost ball seat switch valves from existing brake technology. The solution is perfectly suited for double-clutch transmissions, hybrid transmissions and multi-speed electric drives.
The overall focus was on improving key performance data such as durability, reliability, precision, efficiency and economic feasibility. The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM).
The PCT technology resulting from the project was already presented by ATZ at the end of 2019:
“Synergies with brake technology are the key to an energy-efficient and cost-effective concept for passenger car transmission shifting. The new, patented approach developed by LSP Innovative Automotive Systems is based on a hydraulic piston actuator combined with low-cost ball seat switch valves taken from braking technology. The actuation solution is well suited for double-clutch, hybrid and multi-speed electric transmissions...”
